The Government Adopted a Resolution to Assess Damages Caused to Farmers by Russian Aggression
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has expanded the list of key indicators evaluated when determining the damage inflicted on land resources due to Russia’s armed aggression. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
Additionally, changes have been made regarding state regulation in the field of geographical indications protection. The resolution titled "On Amending Certain Resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Regarding the Protection of Geographical Indications and the Assessment of Damage and Losses Caused to Ukraine as a Result of the Armed Aggression of the Russian Federation" was adopted during a government meeting.
The resolution aims to ensure:
- Optimization of StateGeoCadastre Instruments:
- Compensation for Landowners and Land Users: The resolution allows for compensation of costs incurred by landowners and land users for conserving land plots contaminated by chemical substances due to emergencies and/or armed aggression and military actions during martial law. Compensation is also available for land plots hosting military engineering and/or fortification structures.
Tools for regulating the protection of geographical indications have been streamlined. Specifically: The service of providing a conclusion on the boundaries of a geographical area associated with the specific qualities, properties, or characteristics of a product has been removed from the list of administrative services provided by StateGeoCadastre. The authority of StateGeoCadastre to determine the boundaries of geographical areas tied to specific qualities, properties, or characteristics of products has been excluded from its regulatory framework.
This decision addresses the challenges faced by Ukraine's agricultural sector due to the ongoing war and provides a framework for financial support to mitigate the impact on land resources.
