The National Bank of Ukraine has announced the easing of certain currency restrictions

21/02/2024

One of the updated regulations is the clarification of the grounds for banks to track currency control regarding compliance by residents with the NBU-established deadlines for settlements for humanitarian aid import operations. It is specified that the date of customs clearance of goods imported as humanitarian aid is considered the end date of control.

Additionally, Law No. 3498-IX "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine to Improve State Regulation of Financial Services Markets," which amends the Law of Ukraine "On Banks and Banking Activities," has been in force since December 24, 2023.

With the aim of aligning regulatory acts with Law No. 3498, the NBU has provided temporary permission for non-cash sale (exchange) of Russian/Belarusian rubles. Conditions for conducting such operations include a one-time opportunity for the sale (exchange) of Russian/Belarusian rubles upon the client's bank request and the adoption of a unilateral decision on currency conversion (exchange) in banks by non-residents.
